Staying Alive (1983)
Poor script and dreadful acting. To make matters worse some of the dance sequences are filmed in slow motion.
Titanic (1997)
$ for $ the biggest load of **** a good example of the more you spend the better chance of it being the "best picture". The silly story is an insult to the working class lives that were lost in the tragedy.
Like Water (2011)
Can't empathise with the sport but it seems genuine enough with some honour involved.
Railway Man, The (2013)
The first half – particularly the props – is very good but the story weakens out in the latter half.
Standing Up (Goat Island) (2012)
The kids do okay.
Monuments Men, The (2014)
Follows the familiar "Dirty Dozen" theme when introducing the characters to the audience. When so many familiar faces are on show it can distract from the plot (Goodman would be a distraction in any ensemble). Commercial offering.
Labor Day (2013)
Kate Winslet is right on the mark again.
Three Kings (1999)
Starts off okay with the odd good if familiar moment but then gets a bit tiresome.
Grand Piano (2013)
Brave film making to produce this plot and lead casting of lightweight Wood.
Ronin (1997)
Very good cast including the interesting Jonathan Pryce. Has the requisite car chase with bazooka on winding roads and pavements plus machine gun battle in the middle of a busy shopping day.
