League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse, The

Aroview: Big-screen graduation for the cult TV series set around the inbred Northern English town of "Royston Vasey", where which the trio of Gatiss, Pemberton and Shearsmith play (almost) all of its sinister, grotesque residents.

As one might expect, this extends the bounds of bad taste and black humour beyond small-screen limits, but it also ambitiously self-reflexive, involving numerous border-crossings between the worlds of fictional characters and its real-life beleaguered creators. In fact, some have complained that "Royston Vasey" hardly features! However, the comic appreciation of ugliness and unnerving possibilities still lingers over the enterprise and will hardly disappoint.
