Casshern
Aroview: Set in a ravaged, post-nuclear war future, ruled by a fascist clique, this rearranges some familiar elements with a visually charged, epic style and a heavy dose of pathos.
A genetic scientist accidentally unleashes a race of ferocious 'neo-sapiens' onto the planet, which threaten humanity's last tentative grip on existence - our only hope is a resurrected warrior with mechanoid armour: Casshern. Lavishly surrounding its live-action actors with CGI-generated backdrops and atmosphere, this is stunning viewing, containing any number of excellent set-pieces, if becoming a little overbaked at times. From the 1970s anime by Tatsuo Yoshida.

4 stars (Very Good) Visually impressive, with an almost half-half mixture of live acting and CG sets, Casshern is a magnificent futuristic sci-fi world with serious style and fast-paced action. ~Tom H
1 star (Turkey) The film was a messy mixture of CGI, news reel footage and stop frame animation. I guess a film can be super slick with a bad plot or vice-versa and be acceptable, but Casshern is neither. ~Leighton
