A Love Song for Bobby Long
Aroview: Lazily unravelling drama follows a bitter young woman's (Johannson) return to the New Orleans home of her estranged mother, who has recently died and willed her property also to a couple of resident alcoholics.
Sparring especially with one, ex-English professor Travolta, she makes an uncomfortable new home, but gradually succumbs to their slobbish charms, buckling under a combination of pretentious witticisms and woozy Southern atmosphere. Although fumbled in the close, this stands as another impressive role for Johannson and a chance for a new hair cut for Travolta.

4 stars (Very Good) Great acting, good script and good music. Memorable scenes of New Orleans just before destruction by Hurricane Katrina. Funny, gripping and moving; easy viewing. American literary quotes will amuse aficionados but do not intrude. ~Sandy
