Constant Gardener, The

Aroview: A British diplomat in Kenya (Fiennes) becomes obsessed with uncovering the secrets that lie behind his wife's (Weisz) murder which seem to lead to the tentacles of corporate evil in the pharmaceutical industry.

Based on the novel by John Le Carre (THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD), this adroitly sketches in flashback style a narrative of Western interference in the Third World, lent an affective dimension by Fienne's detailed, indeed soulful, portrait of an emotionally upturned bureaucrat. Dir. by the maker of CITY OF GOD, this is an even more impressive followup, putting flash into an angry, troubling storyline.
