Little Fish
Aroview: Another bleakly intense and beautiful drama from the dir. of THE BOYS, here depicting the efforts of a heroin addict (Blanchett) to put her life back together, while also remaining loyal to druggie pals and attempting to steer through the perilous reefs of one last dodgy deal.
Profitably set in the atmospheric locales of Sydney's 'Little Saigon' district, Blanchett gives one of her best performances to date as a selflessly haggard, yet giggly individual in a naive search for redemption. Support from Weaving and Neill (as the villain of the piece) is suitably nuanced, and while the pacing is overportentous at times, this finally emerges as one of the most trickily honest 'drug movies' of recent years.
