Green Street Hooligans

UK 2005, 105 minutes
Dir. Lexi Alexander
Rating: [R18]
Genres: Drama

Topics: Sport.

Aroview: Expelled from Harvard, a journalism student (Wood) travels to London to stay with his sister, where he becomes drawn into the world of the 'Green Street Elite', the notorious football hooligans associated with the West Ham United F.C., led here by a charismatic teacher (Hunnam).

Excitingly filmed (the dir. was formerly a champion kickboxer), if a little too glamorising of its sordid milieu, this easily grasps the creepily addictive quality of football violence, and despite his innocent features, Wood charts a convincing psychological downfall with his performance. If in the film finally contributes little new insight to the subject, it is solid and credible enough to convince.
