USA 2005, 104 minutes
Dir. David Slade
Rating: [R18]
Genres: Drama, Suspense/Crime / Youth, Sex
Feat. Elliot Page, Patrick Wilson, Sandra Oh
Aroview: Unflinchingly dark and slickly impressive thriller proceeds from the chatroom flirtations between a precocious teenager (Page) and a thirty-something photographer (Wilson) with an unhealthy penchant for girls, into probably the most potent schock-revenge outing since I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.
When the two rendezvous at the photographer's house, the tables are turned and he finds himself bound and at the mercy of the twistedly-moralistic teen, who has come prepared with a DIY surgery kit to undertake 'preventative maintainence' on the paedophile. Both suspenseful and wincingly grueling, dir. Slade (an accomplished music-video creator), demonstrates a sure grasp of gleaming cinematic surfaces, creating a confection that looks sweet enough, but might well leave you with a mental toothache.

4 stars (Very Good) If you loved Audition, this is a must-see. There isn't much in the way of setting, or any long-term plot, but this is as tense and twisted as it gets. Ellen Page is incredible in this role, especially if you still picture her as Juno. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) A stunning performance by Ellen Page. A moral fable, easy on the eye, and gripping. All men should see this one! ~Sandy
1 star (Turkey) boring ~Wyatt Earp
2 stars (Good Try) Although the screenplay makes it point fairly early in the piece it carries on hammering it home at the risk of losing its effectiveness. ~Tubbs
