Aroview: From the vintage of Aki Kaurismaki and Jim Jarmusch, this low-key marriage charade stands as the driest comedy in years, accounting for a run-down Uruguayan sock factory, its stone-faced owner, and the loyal spinster employee recruited to pose as his wife in order to impress an unannounced family guest.

Rich with long, uncomfortable silences and awkward human collisions, directors Rebella and Stoll demonstrate subtlety and a palette for dry, stealthy humour with immaculate timing. A special reserve among deadpan comedies, with the added bonus of turning the crude, ubiquitous French farce on its head.
