Pan's Labyrinth
Aroview: A stunning, sinister netherworld fantasy that parallels an equally compelling story of uprising against a fascist military unit in WWII Spain, this is an "Alice in Wonderland" for grown-ups, told through the eyes of a little girl who has passage into a subterranean world inhabited by nightmarish creatures.
Visionary director Del Toro delivers on his earlier promise in creating a potent, and often violent, battle between good and evil, heroes and villains, in both the real world and the mystical land below, aided by stellar production design, incredible special effects, and a stirring score by Javier Navarrete. Not for the squeamish, though.

5 stars (Exceptional) A sublime film which delivers both dazzling visuals and a deep, powerful emotional impact. ~Wizzums
5 stars (Exceptional) Stunning, heart-wrenching feat of cinema. What I took to be one of the underlying ideas - that the imagination is at best a temporary refuge from evil - is nicely astringent. ~HiFi
