Aroview: Brawny, unapologetic war mongering from the imagination of Frank Miller (SIN CITY), this ancient warrior epic indulges heavily in CGI effects and a propensity for hyper-violence in re-envisioning 300 SPARTANS for the video game age.
A visual spectacle by any standard, the film partakes especially in masculine bloodletting: a 300-strong militia, lead by Spartan king Leonidas (Butler), defy Persian dictatorship (and common sense) to stand their ground against an army of millions. With a boyish gladiatorialism that descends quickly into puerile entertainment, dir. Snyder’s action orienteering will thrill anyone with a PlayStation attention span, though may bludgeon others senseless with its high volume of stylized death making and gung-ho excess.

4 stars (Very Good) Visually exciting, Snyder proves that he can bring an exciting graphic novel to life on the big screen, with a bloody ballet of slow-mo action, striking visual effects, and a true-to-source telling of Miller's 300 Spartans. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Far too much style and nowhere near enough substance ~Wizzums
2 stars (Good Try) If you can stomach the slow-motion violence you can have a laugh at the male posturing and at the stirring final scene. What is worthy of attention however is the artwork. ~Tubbs
3 stars (Good Enough) I strongly suspect that your enjoyment of the film will very much hinge on whether you've read the graphic novel on which it's based. A true re-telling. ~trauma_hound412
