Hawk is Dying, The
Aroview: Paul Giamatti digs his claws into another angsty middle-aged role, playing a disaffected 40-something whose troubled home front – a testy living situation with his pothead sister and her autistic adult son – moves between solace and tragedy.
Release is found in the form of a hawk, and the film drips throughout with grief and guilt. Not comfortable viewing nor easily accessible, but a courageous attempt to attain the same dark but redemptive vision of Bresson’s AU HASARD, BALTHASAR.
