Last Exit to Brooklyn
Aroview: A harrowingly realistic adaptation of a contentious novel about civil unrest during the New York dock workers strike in the 1950s. Jennifer Jason Leigh holds back nothing.

5 stars (Exceptional) Set in bleak 50's Brooklyn, this is a gritty film that traces the lives of some rough urban characters. Exceptional performances, it's violent and sexually graphic - there's no hint of Hollywood gloss and sugar-coating here. ~GenXGirl
2 stars (Good Try) This Korean War epic is dated. It's a parody of the real complexities of working-class life then, or now. The use of Hollywood types acting trashy was unconvincing. John Sales' use of many local people, as in his Indie film Matewan (1987) is way better. ~Anon
