Takes a little while to break free of routine suffering before emerging as a perturbing study of post-traumatic coping mechanisms and psychological motives, with Deneuve deftly conveying a blend of maternal love and grief-driven madness. May not be to everyone's tastes, but nonetheless effective as a dramatic diagram of grief and its potential consequences.
