Death and the Maiden
Aroview: Polanski exacts consummate control in rendering an electrifying stageplay for the screen. The dialogue blisters, the acting transfixes, the tension simmers then boils over after married diplomatic couple (Sigourney Weaver and Stuart Wilson) are forced to interrogate a genial stranger (Ben Kingsley) who may have been her political torturer. The dark recess of the human spirit is the director's forte, but never has it been this riveting or thought-provoking.

5 stars (Exceptional) Incredible character study that creates an almost unbearable tension, encompassing political themes as well. Since Polanski left Hollywood much of his work has been overlooked. This is one of the very best films of the 1990s. ~Hammerscope
4 stars (Very Good) Ben Kingsley is excellent. Descent into a heart of darkness indeed! ~Shorty
