Guitar, The
Aroview: Robert Redford’s daughter Amy directs this misguided, but affecting swansong about a cancer-stricken woman who discovers herself through music during the last days of her life.
Preaching self-absorbance in the face with death, the film contrives to throw a series of unlikely ‘final-flings’ at its terminally ill heroine (bi-sexual romps, retail therapy via credit card debt she won’t have to pay off), before delivering a faint message of enlightenment through resignation. Saffron Burrows plays the wilting guitarist in earnest and sombre tones.
