Wit
Aroview: The dramatic and comedic talents of Emma Thompson flourish in a brave, heartfelt performance as a terminally ill literary professor with a sharp-wit and a passion for poetry.
Confined to a hospital bed, she reflects on significant moments in her life as a spinster academic while the receiving the cold comforts of the medical fraternity. Admirably restrained for the most part but perhaps inevitably sentimental, veteran dir. Mike Nichols retains the pared-down theatricality of Margaret Edson's stageplay, affording it an intimacy that is key to its power.
