Aroview: Pixar are on top yet again with this inspired flight of fancy, about a widowed octogenarian (voiced by grizzly Ed Asner) and his dream of traveling to South America – even if by highly unconventional means!
Given its brilliant opening first act – a splendid flashback establishing its elderly protagonist’s life long romance with aviation, adventurism, and a beloved soul mate, and his subsequent escape in a house tied to balloons – Pixar’s latest can perhaps be faulted for deviating from its initially moving and very human story. Talking dogs aside though, the imaginative storytelling and technical wizardry on display is second to none, while in beginning to grapple with mature themes (mortality, for instance), this can be considered one of Pixar’s most emotionally satisfying works.

3 stars (Good Enough) The opening 10 minutes was amazing, and everything after that seemed to just be an average children's adventure story. The quality was incredibly inconsistent. ~dr.strangelove
3 stars (Good Enough) Brilliant in terms of its animation (Pixar are always great), but after the first few minutes becomes increasingly silly and far-fetched. ~Tom H
5 stars (Exceptional) Its a Pixar. Watch the bonus features on DVD. ~Tubbs
