Cold Souls
Aroview: A existentialist tragi-comedy in which Paul Giamatti plays himself, a New York actor in crisis, who literally has his soul extracted, only to have it stolen and acquired by a Russian soap starlet through the black market.
The result is arthouse high-concept that pays more than a nod to BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and other Charlie Kaufman works (see our close relatives below), though the diminished novelty value and gloomier socio-politics make it a colder soul, despite Giamatti's hang-dog comic charms and smart production design.
