I Heart Huckabees
Aroview: The meaning of life and capitalism in the post-millenial age are ambitiously tackled in this "existential comedy" from the dir. of FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, that bursts with ingenious ideas.
In a post-modern conceit worthy of writer Charlie Kaufman (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH), liberal activist Jason Schwartzman hires a pair of new age "existential detectives" (Hoffman and Tomlin) to investigate himself after a strange coincidental encounter, while he gets on with protesting retail superstore 'Huckabees' and grappling with the conflicting philosophical advise of a French nihilist (Isabelle Huppert!). The work of a bright spark for sure, some will seek out a second viewing to fully appreciate the densely layered dialogue, others might find it heartless and bewildering.
