Of Time and the City
Aroview: Terence Davies (DISTANT VOICES, STILL LIVES) launches a broadside on the transformation of his beloved, bricks-and-mortar Liverpool, in this cantankerous documentary masquerading as a celebration of his hometown.
Reflecting on both his nostalgic longing for old-time Liverpool and his abhorrence at the city's changing, modern face, Davies delivers a personal, found-footage essay that may be ill-tempered, but at least boasts some wonderful, lyrical moments reminiscent of his earlier, autobiographical films.

5 stars (Exceptional) If you know, or are from Liverpool-a lovely nostalgic film that will make you homesick. Traces the sad decline of a city from post war to 1970's, with an utterly gorgeous commentary. ~bonewoman
4 stars (Very Good) A deeply personal meditation on life in working-class Catholic Liverpool from pre-WW2 to modern times. Moving contemporary footage informed by Terence Davies' thoughts & favourite poetry & music. A unique film. Don't miss the extra interview with him. ~Sandy
