Aroview: Johnny Depp slithers his way through this lively and often brilliant animated western, voicing a lizard who winds up as the sheriff of a lawless desert town.

What sets this apart from other animations is the breathless attention to character detail that pushes the anthropomorphic possibilities of an animal's face into new realms. Strongly referencing ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST and CHINATOWN in story and sentiment, this may suffer a little story flab in its latter half, but has enough gorgeously realised and memorable sequences to still rank it among the animated feature elite.
