Aroview: Tim Burton directs Johnny Depp (for the eight time) in the cult role of Barnabas Collins, a 200-year-old vampire who reawakens in the 1970s to find his once proud manor overtaken by distant ancestors.
A patchwork of the director's previous films that combines his fetishism for old world Gothic and seventies kitsch, this works best as a fish-out-of-water comedy, with Johnny Depp's plummy parasite providing almost all of the highlights. Marshaling too many of the show's original characters to find a satisfying narrative, Burton inevitably proves but a shadow of his former genius.

1 star (Turkey) Dark Shadows gets my raspberry award for 2012, being the worst film on all levels that I have seen for a long time. I could not recommend this to anyone. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Considering its director and cast it doesn't work as well as it might have, but still, there are some very good scenes around the excellent female ensemble. The set designs and artwork are commendable. ~Tubbs
