Deep Blue Sea, The
Aroview: Post-war romantic drama in which Rachel Weisz plays the wife of a British Judge caught in a self-destructive love affair with a Royal Air Force pilot.
Terence Davies gives Terrence Rattigan's classic play a typically lush treatment, and if at times he seems more concerned with minute period detail, this is still a treat for fans of doomed love stories with finely judged performances.

3 stars (Good Enough) Rachel is fine but the strength of the film lies in the production detail - for example, her room with the depressing wallpaper is spot on (as Spike Milligan would note - you turn the light on and the room gets darker) as is the bomb damage in the street. ~Tubbs
2 stars (Good Try) Dated, with very annoying music. Characters not well developed. It's a cruel film & depressing; hard to see the point of it. Not up to the usual Terence Davies standard. ~Sandy
