Fly, The
Aroview: Cronenberg's most accessible work is an ingenious re-working of the 1958 film that works as well for its contemporary audience as the original did in the 'atomic age'. Also a career highlight for stars Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, who offer up a chemical frisson of their own.

5 stars (Exceptional) It plays it very straight, for a very long time- and this makes it feel almost clinical. When it starts to go places, it's superbly developed narrative supports real body horror and its just glorious. ~Sevenhead
5 stars (Exceptional) Come for the gross-out body horror, stay for the lovingly crafted relationship between Davis peak-fox Goldblum. You could bill this movie as "rom-com where everything goes horribly wrong, and even the most vile character finds a moment of heroism." ~Pop&Coffee
4 stars (Very Good) It's a rare film that can make the viewer both cry and dry-heave: The Fly is such a film, a nightmarish hybrid of disease-weepie and sci-fi splatter. The offbeat leads are excellent in tricky roles, and the practical FX are amazing. ~fairbrother
5 stars (Exceptional) classic, one of the second movies I saw with Jeff Goldblum, the first being Jurassic park, ~Wyatt Earp
4 stars (Very Good) A genuine horror. Terrific work by the makeup and special effects departments. ~Tubbs
