I Am Not a Witch
“Writer-director Rungano Nyoni has created a marvellous movie that might not always be easy to watch, but it sparks with artistry and originality.”~Rich Cline, Shadows on the Wall
Aroview: Full of joy and tragedy in the equal measure, this assured debut from Zambian writer-director Rungano Nyoni follows the story of 9-year old girl who is accused of witchcraft after a banal incident in her Zambian village, and is sent to an absurd "witch camp" to be initiated into a life as a witch. The film bravely attacks a world of systemic misogyny and ignorance with comic satire and fierce spirit.

4 stars (Very Good) Young Maggie Mulubwa's expressionless face is an inspired casting. The screenplay is bitter/sweet but the bitter is handled through some clever satire so the entertainment level rarely dips. ~Tubbs
