“Necessary, deft and ultimately shocking. This is a beautifully hewn, brave piece of filmmaking that asks difficult, searching questions that will haunt you long after the credits roll.”~Empire Magazine
Aroview: An unforgettable South African drama following a closeted relationship between two Xhosa men participating in a coming-of-age initiation rite called Ulwaluko.
Controversial in South Africa due to its depiction of homosexuality, this is a beguiling film that boldly explores and appreciates nontraditional notions of masculinity. Lead actor Nakhane is something of a queer icon internationally due to their music career, and brings rich authenticity to the character of Xolani, having experienced Ulwaluko themselves.
