Day of Wrath
Aroview: Witchcraft drama set in 17th century rural Denmark, where an innocent young woman is denounced following the death of her much older, harshly conservative husband.
Delineated with a slow, claustrophobic immediacy in textured black and white, the wife's slide towards the torture-chamber becomes hard to watch, but dir. Dreyer's artistry prevails.

5 stars (Exceptional) In which Dreyer invents the most kickass moving camera, gracefully prowling around the witches and bigots. ~artsfiend
5 stars (Exceptional) Beautiful film that feels fresh and modern (story-wise & aesthetically) despite its age. It's one that has lasted. Terrific performances that have a naturalism to them that is unexpected from this era. ~Andrea
