Aroview: A Holocaust film quite unlike any other, The Hoss family have moved into their new home in Poland. The camera objectively documents their daily life as they play and relax in their serene garden. Over the stone wall, smoke rises from the Auschwitz death camp.
The chilling historical atrocities are committed in close proximity and yet remain out of sight. All horror is implied by the sound of distance voices in the sparse soundtrack. It’s an artful conceit that affects as an ever-timely statement about our own capacity for indifference to human suffering and human evil.
Filmed in the real life location.
