Aroview: Things get increasingly bizarre for Mickey Rourke as a sleazy P.I. on the trail of a mysterious jazz singer. Genuinely creepy American gothic carries a spellbinding finale and Rourke's finest hour.

4 stars (Very Good) Set in 1955, New Orleans, a supernatural thriller about a sullen detective Harry Angel who's hired to find a missing person by a shady client with pointy fingernails. Really creepy and really good. ~GenXGirl
4 stars (Very Good) Seriously creepy cajun voodo black magic action. Brilliantly evocative of 1950's New Orleans. Perfect camera work, superb sound recording. Real nail biting edge-of-the-seat finale. Mickey Rourke, perfectly cast, gives it everything ~Anon
5 stars (Exceptional) One of the best of this genre EVER! ~Daisyboo
4 stars (Very Good) Set in Harlem & Louisiana 1955 this top thriller is well-acted, witty & violent. About as good as Hollywood gets. Based on US novel "Fallen Angel". Rourke and Lisa Bonet are terrific but unfortunately their key scene was cut in this DvD. Cult movie. ~Sandy
5 stars (Exceptional) The ending is terribly predictable, but with a film this good who cares? Outstanding camera work and beautiful imagery. A perfect slice of American gothic noir. Essential. ~trauma_hound412
5 stars (Exceptional) One of the best films I have in my collection - well worth the watch. Stellar performances from Rourke, De Niro and Rampling ~River
3 stars (Good Enough) Not the strongest in the genre but as to be expected from the director it is well produced - the street scenes are a standout. ~Tubbs
