USA 2001, 144 minutes
Dir. Ridley Scott
Rating: [R]
Genres: Action/Adventure / War
Topics: Gung-ho.
Aroview: Intense, eardrum-battering re-enactment of a street-battle during the US campaign in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993, painting the bloody chaos of war in graphic, technically-inspired detail.
Don’t expect political insight, this is firmly a ‘trench-drama’ of failed leadership from the generals and muted heroics by the ground-troops, as a mission to seize two key enemies goes awry with the downing of a ‘Black Hawk’ attack-helicopter by the militant Somalians. Sam Shepard commands operations, Ewan McGregor, Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana and Tom Sizemore take the bullets.

4 stars (Very Good) An epic-length war action/drama, with American troops stuck in the streets of Mogadishu and fighting to get out. Some great action sequences and stunning effects are the most notable features. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) Makes up for flat characterisation and dodgy politics with absolutely riveting action. ~Wizzums
2 stars (Good Try) Excellent action film but all the goodies look alike with or without helmets so there is little chance of character interest. ~Tubbs
