One Hour Photo
Aroview: In a nifty piece of gimmick casting, Robin Williams shows his darker side as a lonely, middle-aged photolab assistant who develops an unhealthy obsession with an attractive customer’s snapshots, proceeding to secure his place in her ‘family album’.
Providing the cheap thrills one would expect from a ‘stalker thriller’ with a stylised edge, this feature debut of music video whizz-kid Romanek is expectedly photogenic, crisp and hi-gloss, though his script is too processed and two-dimensional to really unnerve. Robin Williams does prove his dramatic acting chops, however, and leaves the most lasting impression.
