Un Chant D'amour
Aroview: Sole foray into cinema for French convict-turned-playwright Jean Genet is a brief and intense visual poem about the fantasies of prisoners and warders.
Unavailable for many years, this constructs a provocative and pointed comment on the sexual dimensions of power relations using a subtle choreography of bodies, spaces and editing.
Originally silent, but available on this DVD edition with an excellent live soundtrack scored by Simon Fisher Turner. Also includes a commentary by writer Jane Giles and filmmaker Richard Kwietniowski.
