Driller Killer
Aroview: Somewhat notorious as a 'video nasty' of the 80s video boom, this debut from bad boy auteur Abel Ferrara was perhaps misunderstood (like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) on account the fearsome word association of powertools and murder.
Ferrara himself plays an artist who slowly loses his mind living in urban squalor while a punk band bangs away in the downstairs apartment. It's less interesting for its unsavoury splatter than as an authentically low-down piece of NY shock-rock.
