Diary of a Country Priest
Aroview: Compelling and uncompromising - this adaptation of Georges Bernanos' classic French novel is one of dir. Bresson's best examinations of the nature of 'grace' in the modern world.
Laydu plays the country priest of the title, who is isolated from his community, partly by the realisation he is dying of cancer and has not succeeded in his vocation. Despite the dark-sounding subject matter, this resonates with a unique religious sincerity, communicated through Bresson's rigorous aesthetic.
