Human Stain, The
Aroview: An astute adaptation of a modern American classic, with a distinguished Anthony Hopkins and a blazing Nicole Kidman striking a surprising chemistry.
Though essentially a story of middle-aged despair and rejuvenation, this harbours a prominent backstory of race relations, political correctness and conformism on its ambitious agenda. While criticised in some purist quarters, this can’t possibly contain the nourishing detail of literature, but the substance of Phillip Roth’s novel is evident throughout.
