Caretaker, The

Aroview: Praised film adaptation of Harold Pinter's breakthrough stageplay, in which two brothers invite a tramp into their London flat - an act of charity that soon turns into a strange power-struggle between them all.

Shot in black and white by famed cinematographer Nicolas Roeg, this captures its cramped setting in every seedy detail, while the compassionate performances from all three of the cast, are among their best ever. Pleasence in fact turned this weaselly, hyperactive tramp into something of a career trademark.
