Servant, The
Aroview: First collaboration between playwright Harold Pinter and dir. Losey is an elegant diagram of English class cruelties, with man-servant Dirk Bogarde subtly undermining the fragile snobbery of his employer James Fox. His moral 'corruption', helped along by lower-class trollop Sarah Miles, leads to an outstanding hallucinatory ending.

4 stars (Very Good) Dirk Bogarde's corrupting homme fatale is an almost unique creation. ~Anon
5 stars (Exceptional) Provocative work of genius from Losey, Pinter & Bogarde. It's about class & sex, with gay undertones (IMBd). Terrific cinematography recently enhanced for DVD by French TV. Screened 1 week in NZ when released; few ever saw this timeless movie. ~Sandy
5 stars (Exceptional) Bogarde!!! ~Regando
