American Film Theatre - Lost in the Stars
Aroview: The innovative 1930s musical collaboration between Maxwell Anderson and Kurt Weill was ambitiously adapted in this American Film Theatre version.
Concerning a Zulu preacher who slowly discovers the plight of his desperate son in Johannesburg, this dismantles the inequities of the Aparthied system with melodrama and imagination. Originally based on Alan Paton's novel 'Cry the Beloved Country', it is perhaps too static in its staging to be very successful, but the music and performances are a pleasure.
