Cat's Meow, The (2001)
Excellent production values service an interesting screenplay. Edward Herrmann makes a good fist of his Hearst character and Jennifer Tilly steals her scenes and enjoys herself.
A Shriek in the Night (1933)
Although the shriek doesn't rise to any great heights it is worth the hour running time.
Changing Lanes (2002)
A good plot idea and a good start with the screenplay but it then loses its way and takes a few wrong turns.
A Double Life (1947)
The performances were fine as was the plot idea but the screenplay didn't hold the attention.
Another Country (1984)
An excellent snapshot of British privilege and hierarchical bullying. None of those cast in the supporting roles would look out of place in a public school. Rupert Everett is outstanding.
Dancer Upstairs, The (2002)
The screenplay is contrived at times and its second half weakens badly.
Skate Kitchen (2017)
It was okay but the screenplay didn't last the distance. Watch "Kids" (1995).
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Stallone wrote the screenplay which opens with a close up of his features – I'm sure he thought he was the Marlboro Man the way he was prancing around with his hat & horse. Tears in the eyes handicapped the viewing of what followed after.
Knack and How to Get It, The (1965)
It is a Richard Lester film – fresh and always interesting. Rita Tushingham, who often depicts a working class lass, is an excellent casting choice.
Snow Cake (2006)
I watched Rickman in "Something the Lord Made" which like this one could have fallen prey to melodrama but didn't & I think Rickman can take a lot of credit for that for both films. Snow Cakes other lead Sigourney Weaver gives another fine performance.
