Le Mepris (Contempt) (1963)
Most of the screenplay is comprised of a married couple arguing over very little which really then puts too much onus on the rest of the screenplay to produce anything worthwhile.
Nicholas Nickleby (2002)
The story has stood the test of time. There are outstanding performances from Tom Courtenay, Juliet Stevenson and Jim Broadbent.
China Girl (1987)
The screenplay holds no surprises as it is familiar and predictable but the street locations look real.
Cliffhanger (1993)
You can tell it was shot in the warmth of the studio as in the mountain scenes everyone is bareheaded – maybe there was something in their contracts about protecting hairdos.
Wild Style (1982)
Provided you are not a ratepayer the graffiti segments are well done and complement the music and dance scenes. The Bronx settings are perfect.
Animal Crackers (1930)
There are some terrible one liners but most of them work. Harpo's performance is the most polished of the brothers and he steals the show (as well as the polish probably).
Little Black Book (2004)
Brittany, Kathy and Holly – what a line up – they just needed a screenplay that was better than this one.
An Awfully Big Adventure (1994)
It was always going to be watchable because of the casting –Georgina Cates is excellent – but the screenplay falters at times and some of the characters are a little overdone even for the stage.
Pumpkin (2002)
Even though it probably had good intentions, and although it had a more than useful female cast, it ended up being a misfire.
Tulsa (1949)
Except when they are searching for oil it doesn't really break any new ground.
