Fear and Desire (1953): If by making this Mr. Kubrick was able to learn and henceforth make better films then this hour–long drama was worth every minute.
In America (2002): It has its sugary segments and it suffers from an attack of the theatricals at times but it has enough Irish charm to see it through.
Kangaroo Jack (2003): Silly but it is hard to dislike.
Three Came Home (1950): In the main, it is believable storytelling with few embellishments. The performances are fine.
Descent, The (2005): To its credit, the screenplay puts a lot of effort into first creating suspense rather than taking the lazy way out and jumping straight to the horror situation.
Grand Canyon (1991): It may have worked on the principle "that if we make it long enough there is bound to be something to please everyone". If so I think they succeeded.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The (2003): The design work and special effects were at their best in the early scenes. The characterizations were of varying quality and interest.
Something The Lord Made (2004): It does very well, for the most part, to avoid melodrama. The story is well worth the telling and this is helped by some very good performances.
Milou En Mai (May Fools) (1989): Although the later scenes dip a bit it is a delightful screenplay performed by a very good ensemble cast.
Melo (1986): The performances are fine but the screenplay is limited in its breadth.
