In America
Aroview: Heartfelt fable about a down-at-heel Irish immigrant family who take up residence in a New York slum where their fortune comes to be affected by a mysterious African neighbour.
Stamped with veteran director Jim Sheridan’s seal of quality and co-written - perhaps a little too forgivingly - with his two daughters, this favours American-style emotional sweep over the working-class reality of the immigrant experience, but it’s the backstory of loss, faith and family bonds that’s more likely to catch those receptive to its sentimental charm.

3 stars (Good Enough) Young Irish couple with two daughters slip illegally into the US, moving into a run-down New York apartment. Deals with the aftermath of the loss of a child and doesn't stick to the typical Hollywood formula. Refreshing, watchable. ~GenXGirl
