Mystic Pizza (1988)
I'm a fan of Lili Taylor and she got me through this serving of light fare.
Chimes at Midnight (1965)
Non Shakespeare fans should find this accessible and entertaining. As well as Welles's fine performance there is a chance to listen to one of the great speaking voices – that of John Gielgud.
Endless Summer (1966)
The droll commentary would have been entertainment enough.
Over the Hedge (2006)
An excellent choice of animal characters.
For My Father's Kingdom (2019)
Tonga is the Friendly Islands and from experience I have always associated Tongan people with happiness. This documentary is heartfelt and deserves to be seen.
I Bury the Living (1958)
A simple but interesting premise has no trouble keeping one's attention over a running time that doesn't overstay its welcome.
I Am Not a Witch (2017)
Young Maggie Mulubwa's expressionless face is an inspired casting. The screenplay is bitter/sweet but the bitter is handled through some clever satire so the entertainment level rarely dips.
Peeping Tom (1960)
Whilst no longer controversial 60 years on it still had the ability to create suspense, particularly because the up close and personal camera work meant there was no escape for the viewer. Anna Massey was excellent.
ParaNorman (2012)
An excellent follow up to "Coraline" – again it has a distinctive animation style and characters.
Rurouni Kenshin (2012)
It is overlong for its material which doesn't really spring any surprises.
