Arrival (2016): Amy Adams gives a good enough performance, but Jeremy Renner is grating and wooden. However, the sound design is absolutely phenomenal, and the film takes a fascinating stance on how we view language. The aliens are great too.
Samurai Trilogy, The (Musashi Miyamoto, Duel at Ichijoji Temple, Duel at Ganryu Island) (1954-1956): DVD ~~$40~~ $30
Flowers in the Attic (1987): Wooden acting, wooden dialog, and an awful lot of wooden furniture (no really). I don't really see the point of the film. Avoid.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (TV Series) (2012): Enchanting series with wonderful costumes with lovely performances by Essie Davis and Ashleigh Cummings. Have fun spotting the locations if you've lived in Melbourne.; DVD ~~$20~~ $15
Babadook, The (2014): Great film about grief and loss with standout performances by Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman.
Re-Animator (1985): Effects–laden genre classic. Combs and Crampton really outdo themselves.
Swarm, The (1978): Bzzzarre film amongst a swarm of 70's disaster movies. Scared me as a kid, but now it seems terribly silly.
