Hunt, The (2012)
Probably made with good intentions but the screenplay soon becomes a bit predictable.
Deadly Mr. Frost (1990)
The screenplay needs patience in parts but is always interesting. The casting of Goldblum, Bates, and Baker should be tempting enough.
Stories We Tell (2012)
I'll watch it again – the first time didn't make much of an impression.
Proof of Life (2000)
Another screenplay that shoots itself in the foot by being too long for its material. There is a good supporting cast though which adds some much needed interest.
Mass (2021)
Ann Dowd must have one of the saddest faces recorded on celluloid.
Tangiwai: A Love Story (2011)
The screenplay is a bit melodramatic at times during the cricket sequences but overall the production values are excellent and it does capture a slice of 1950s New Zealand.
Smash Palace (1981)
The screenplay does have an NZ 80s feel to it but the screenplay does not "brake" on any new ground. The "Making of" is quite good.
Robin and the Seven Hoods (1964)
Extremely well made. The dance numbers compensate somewhat for the modest songs.
Quiet Girl, The (An Cailín Ciúin) (2022)
The screenplay wasn't perfect but overall it did the little things well and its pacing was spot on. The main strength however was in the performances. All nine year olds should be like Catherine Clinch & the other parts were performed to near perfection.
Cats (2019)
It has a couple of good tunes, the dancing is fine, and the wardrobe makeup teams do a noticeably good job. That is all fur now.
