Dark Victory (1939)
Straight forward plot that is watchable because of the performances of Bette and George Brent.
Sorcerer's Apprentice, The (2010)
Uneven but there are some good bits especially the mop scene – a number of the special effects and plot ideas have been seen before but its well worth watching when Alfred Molina is on camera.
Dying of the Light (2014)
It would pay to be a Cage fan as he "seems" to be in every minute of every scene.
Guest, The (2014)
There's a fine line with black comedy.Reasonable first half but it gradually got sillier.
Last Days of Disco (1998)
Another talkie like "Barcelona" – that wouldn't be so bad if the characters were a tad interesting.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
If you are happy to watch special effects all day then this film will please – if you are looking for a bit more then look elsewhere.
Duke of Burgundy, The (2014)
Serene at times – beautiful photography – excellent production values.
Gambler, The (2014)
The plot idea of gambling addiction v unsympathetic loan shark plus the romantic sub plot of student and professor is old hat. Wahlberg however is believable, Jessica Lange has a great cameo and there is one great scene with the impressive John Goodman.
Hoot (2006)
A familiar plot but the film is sincere and has been made for the right reasons.
Annie (2014)
Not a very tuneful musical. The only real highlights are when the kids are left alone to do their dance numbers otherwise it does drag.
