Boccaccio '70 (1962)
In the Monicelli the young married couple put off a holiday to Venice to save money. They proclaim "Venice isn't going anywhere"– it brought on an unintended laugh.
Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad (1949)
Excellent animated entertainment.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
50 years on it is more of a curiosity piece but still worth a watch. I never tire of listening to Sidney Poitier's voice – it is very easy on the ear.
Marriage Italian Style (Matrimonio All'italiana) (1964)
Although the screenplay runs out of steam it remains watchable. The soft colour photography is easy on the eye.
L'Avventura (1960)
The screenplay takes its time, and although the characters are a waste of time, the saving grace is the high standard of the camera work in particular some stunning panoramic shots.
Whale Rider (2003)
Beautifully photographed and the story should be appreciated by all age groups and cultures.
Story of a Love Affair (Cronaca di un amore) (1950)
Competent story telling rather than memorable.
Hidalgo (2003)
The screenplay is long and not exactly groundbreaking. The shooting locations help to maintain the interest.
Truth About Cats and Dogs (1995)
The three leads work well together in this thrashed to death story and at least make it watchable.
Aladdin (2019)
Although more suited to animation the production does have some good musical numbers and the wardrobe people do a colourful job.
