We watched the original mini–series last night and this one tonight. Mel Gibson doesn't compare at all to Bob Peck and the plot was weak. Even with Ray Winstone it's not worth watching.
I saw this when I was much (much) younger and remembered it fondly. It has dated and the dialogue is frequently disappointing but the tripods are well done for the time it was made and do convey menace.
I loved this when it came out and I loved seeing it again. Bob Peck is compelling and the drama is overall well paced. The scenes in the old mines were great. Eric Clapton on guitar is a little dated – very Pink Floyd.
