Dir. Randall Miller
Genres: Drama / Musical, Romance
Feat. Robert Carlyle, Marisa Tomei, John Goodman, Mary Steenburgen, Sean Astin, Danny De Vito, Donnie Wahlberg, David Paymer
Aroview: Old-fashioned melodrama, shading into elegaic whimsy, in which a widowed baker (Carlyle) helps and learns the story of a car crash victim (Goodman), who had been racing to keep an appointment with a girl he met at a ballroom dance class forty years previously.
Deciding to meet the appointment himeslf, Carlyle infiltrates the nostalgic world of the titular school and falls under the spell of its enigmatic namesake (Steenburgen). Lightly stepping through its fairytale-ish fable of innocence reborn out of trust, this will reward a certain suspension of disbelief at its outlandish storyline, with some heartfelt moments, stylish ballroom moves and leggy female cast. Note: adapted by the director from his own short film made in 1990.

3 stars (Good Enough) A strange screenplay, one that looks to have been stitched together, but the dancing sequences are good. Marisa Tomei is very good as to be expected. ~Tubbs
